The Brim Wedding Chapel is a Kansas City Northland venue. Initially, a 3-sheet preliminary design set and an image of the plat was provided to 3F30. 3F30, in conjunction with MEP and structural engineers, created a 16-page construction set for permit.
The site needed to be developed. First, chapel building placement was addressed. Incorporating contour information from GIS and site visits, the ideal location was the northwest corner. It is relatively flat in this region and is secluded from county roads. Secondly, chapel access needed to be established. An existing drive off Northwest Walker Road leads to an existing gravel lot. 3F30 designed a portion the lot be become ADA compliant by pavement and marker installation. The existing concrete path through colonnade was extended to the chapel. Lastly, site utilities were addressed. The site had an existing water line with hydrant. However, the site needed electrical service. The chapel power feeds off a proposed electrical line. It runs parallel to the water line and has a mounted panel.
The chapel itself is wood construction and symmetrical in design. The open interior allows configuration flexibility. Overhead doors can open to expand the usable space and provide views to existing grapevine trellises and nature. The vaulted ceiling has 3 trusses spanning the space. Ceiling fans are hung from the trusses for air circulation. Additionally, 2 air conditioners were installed on the west with ductwork flanking either side of the chapel. All systems make the space comfortable. There is clerestory space above adding more daylight to the space. A mix of pendant, can, and wall mounted lighting illuminates the space. In the end, the details in construction design makes the Brim Wedding Chapel venue user friendly.
