Faith Baptist Church is located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The initial drive for the project was the congregation’s need for inclusive access. The existing facility is multilevel and did not meet ADA regulations. This led to multiple design and plan options, as well as budget, to be presented. Ultimately, the decision to provide a 240 SF entry addition and 600 SF interior remodel was made. The addition stretches across the existing front of the building. Aesthetically, it is modernized and inviting. Beyond circulation needs, the project includes a new pastor and general office as well as a conference room.
Even though existing floor openings were considered, the addition provided the best avenue for vertical circulation. Built on a hollow core slab, the addition allows for safe passage within the building during inclement weather by ramp and stair. To pay homage to the original exterior, the church placard was incorporated into the ramp and stair structure. Also, to access the building’s multiple levels, the existing stairwell was relocated. With its relocation, it was updated to meet code and usability. For those unable to utilize stairs, a lift was installed. The end result is effortless access for all of Faith Baptist Church functions.
