Reach Church – DeSoto

Reviving an existing building for Reach Church – DeSoto

The church obtained a 5,000 square foot space.  Although it may not look like it, the building is a combination of three century old buildings. Prior to demolition, they housed retail offices in the front and residential units in the rear.  The residential units also had a mezzanine level.  In addition to functionality, structural issues needed addressing.  It was evident that the floors were not level and in disrepair.  Existing columns, beams, and structure showed years of “makeshift” fixes. Moreover, the barrel roof structure needed assessment for load bearing elements like mechanical runs and lighting.  Safety in structural integrity was key.

Working with Strickland Construction, 3F30 put together a budget for design and construction.  The mezzanine level was removed, opening the space for the sanctuary.  Internal structure was reinforced to handle the occupancy.  Structural engineering located new columns in the basement.  Additionally, existing beams and columns were reinforced and subflooring replaced.  The entire mechanical system was also replaced and coordinates with the new layout. Classrooms, offices, support spaces are on the west side.  Lobby and entry are on the east with a kitchen and coffee bar in between.  Exterior elements addressed include new metal egress stairs on the south and a brand new front facade on the north.  New exterior doors and sidewalk repair were constructed on the west side.  The church hopes to utilize the basement someday for additional classrooms.

Undoubtedly, Reach Church – Desoto has become a great fixture for downtown DeSoto.
