When shopping on the fly, The Everything Travel Store Kiosk has you covered.
Kansas City’s International Airport constructed a brand new terminal. Located in the new terminal is The Everything Travel Store Kiosk. It is a true millwork design solving a list of challenges including spatial use and both airport and client expectations. As a result, everything was designed and constructed within 1/4″ of flexibility.
There was an emphasis on the customer queuing lines occurring on the inside the kiosk space. Queuing starts in middle of the space and move outward to the ends of the kiosk. The middle portion of the kiosk is double sided with ample display space with slat walls for larger items and deep product stacking on one side. In addition, lockable refrigeration units for beverage sales is on the other side. To maximize product space, slat walls were added to the kiosk’s columns and towers ideal for small souvenirs and short stacking depth. On either end of the kiosk is a point of sale (POS) counter. The counters were designed for the clerks’ equipment and operations. Also, recessed slat walls below on the customer side are perfect for the last minute purchase like gum and candy.
Not only is security a concern to the airport, but also the client. The metal grid structure above supports cameras as well as a security curtain track. Stacking space had to be planned carefully within the limited footprint. Hence why the curtain is divided in two and housed in two pockets during open hours. At closing, the pocket doors open, the two curtains navigate the track, meet and lock in place. Equally important to cameras and curtain, is the clerks’ view of the space. As a result, the POS counters are angled from the main merchandise line.
